Agartala: The sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Ambassa in Dhalai district, Rinku Reang, issued a showcause notice on Thursday to two senior officials of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), citing serious lapses in duty after a 13-year-old girl was injured when she came into contact with a snapped live electric wire in Ambassa on Wednesday evening.The incident raised concerns about public safety and negligence in power infrastructure maintenance. The incident took place in the Ambassa market area, despite calm weather conditions without storms, rainfall, or strong winds, indicating potential lapses in infrastructure maintenance. The girl, identified as Bulti Modak, was taken to a medical facility in critical condition.In the notice, the SDM pointed out that the failures related to preventive measures and requested a written explanation from TSECL deputy general manager and senior manager within 3 days. The notice also cautioned that failure to comply would result in legal proceedings under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.The incident has evoked public outrage, leading to protest at the Ambassa power office and escalating tensions that resulted in clashes with police. The chaos led to several officers suffering injuries, including Nandan Lal Das, the officer-in-charge of Ambassa PS.
