Guwahati: In a significant development ahead of the Assam elections, police officers from Dispur Police Station seized Rs 8 lakh in unaccounted cash during two separate inspections on Tuesday. Police also detained two persons for questioning over possible violations of the model code of conduct (MCC).While police have not disclosed many details, an officer from Dispur Police Station said, “The arrested person has been identified as Rounkak Harlalka, and he was carrying about Rs 6 lakh in cash in his vehicle. He was caught during a routine inspection in the city’s Khanapara area. He has been detained and is being interrogated on the purpose of carrying such an amount.”The seizure was made near the Veterinary Clinical Complex at around 10am.Later in the evening, another seizure was reported at the city’s Dispur Last Gate area, where a person was found carrying approximately Rs 2 lakh in cash inside a vehicle. Upon questioning, the person said the money was intended for the medical treatment of a relative. The officer added that the cash was seized as per protocol, and further verification is underway to ascertain the authenticity of the claim and the source of the funds.
