Nagaland cop held with unlicensed firearm

DIBRUGAR: On the eve of Republic Day, a constable of Nagaland Police was arrested by railway cops at the Mariani railway station in Jorhat district for the illegal possession of an unlicensed .22 pistol.

Constable Khublal Thakur, who had boarded a train at Dimapur railway station in Nagaland, was en route to his home in Bihar’s Siwan district when he was intercepted by the Government Railway Police (GRP). The arrest took place as part of the routine frisking and checking of railway passengers ahead of the Republic Day festivities.

The discovery was made when Thakur was taking a stroll on the railway platform after disembarking from the train.

The scanner at the platform detected the firearm, leading to the constable’s apprehension. Further investigation revealed that he did not possess a valid arms licence.
