Agartala: Tripura’s lone Rajya Sabha Member
Rajib Bhattacharjee on Friday urged the introduction of a high-speed train service between Agartala and Guwahati, stressing the need to modernise and accelerate rail connectivity in the state.
Speaking in the Parliament, he highlighted the transformative development in the northeast under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and said Tripura now enjoys a broad-gauge railway network linking it to major Indian cities. The state is connected to Kolkata, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Guwahati, and other destinations through services such as the Tripura Sundari Express, Tejas Express, Humsafar Express, Kanchanjunga Express, and several weekly specials.
However, he pointed out that there is still no direct train between Agartala and Guwahati, despite both cities being vital hubs in the region.
The MP emphasised that the current travel time between Agartala and Guwahati remains considerable, affecting passengers as well as trade, education, healthcare, and tourism. He said a high-speed train would drastically reduce travel time, provide greater comfort, and benefit students, professionals, patients, and tourists alike.
He urged the ministry of railways to take up the proposal promptly, adding that improved connectivity would boost industrial growth, commerce, and investment opportunities in Tripura, while enhancing the overall experience of its people.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with
