Cong plotting to bring 'dangerous law': Modi
PM Modi in Assam
GUWAHATI: PM Narendra Modi urged voters in Assam on Wednesday to stay vigilant against an alleged Congress plot to bring what he described as "a dangerous law," harking back to the contentious Communal Violence Bill drafted in 2013 by the then UPA govt. "Based on that bill, the majority community was to be held responsible for riots while minorities were always considered victims. The bill itself was communal. That is why the BJP-led NDA fought hard and did not allow its passage in Parliament," Modi said while opening his Assam campaign with a rally at Dhemaji district's Gogamukh. "You have liberated Assam from Congress's misrule. The Congress party is now engaged in a different game." The PM predicted that despite indications of Congress being ready to "do anything" to return to office, BJP was poised to complete a hat trick in the state while its rival was headed for "a century of defeats." "Before independence, Muslim League played the game of dividing the country. The same work Congress is doing today. Congress wants to protect foreigners in Assam and turn the original sons and daughters of the state into a minority.
We are all witnessing this crisis in many districts of Assam," he added. At Manohari tea estate in Dibrugarh, Modi interacted with 19 women pluckers, enquiring about their families, children's education, and wages. Sharing photos from the visit on X, PM praised the contribution of tea garden workers to Assam's progress.
