Aizawl: Mizoram excise & narcotics department officials have seized heroin worth around Rs 80 lakh from the alleged possession of two persons belonging to Manipur at Mizoram’s Kolasib town, department spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga said on Thursday.

TOI that the seized heroin is 1.252kg and according to the National Drugs Control Bureau (NCB) 1kg of heroin is worth Rs 80 lakh in the country while the prevailing market rate in Aizawl is Rs 40,000 per ‘hawng’ (packet) usually containing 12 grams of the narcotic drugs.
He said the officials intercepted a car at the Khuangpuilam locality in Kolasib town at 2pm on Wednesday and arrested Patrick Ramhmingthang (44) of Mualvaiphei in Manipur, and Samson Lalremruat (24) of Parbung in Manipur, for reportedly transporting the contraband from Manipur to be sold in Silchar and Cachar districts of Assam. One of the suspects Ramhmingthanga is identified as a police official of Manipur.
The two accused were booked under Section 21(c) of The Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, in Kolasib excise and narcotics Station and were produced before the district and sessions court of the Kolasib judicial district.
