The event witnessed a touching turnout, with members of Radio Gyanmalinee personally visiting both homes to hand over the radio sets. We wanted our elderly residents to have that companionship, to have something that fills their hours with music, stories, and voices that make them feel connected to the world,” said a member of the station. The initiative holds special significance as it comes in the wake of the station’s eighth anniversary. The distribution drive was seen as a meaningful way to mark the milestone — by giving back to the community it has long served through the airwaves.
“It is deeply fulfilling to see a community radio station live up to its true spirit. Reaching out to our elderly citizens in this way reflects the station’s commitment,” Prof. Boruah said at the event. The residents of both old age homes received the radio sets with delight, with many sharing memories of growing up listening to the radio, a medium that once was the heartbeat of every household.
