Man crushed to death near Silchar ISBT
Silchar: A man was killed in a road accident near the Ramnagar Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Silchar after being run over by a heavy vehicle during peak traffic hours, sources said.
The incident occurred in the busy ISBT area when a large vehicle allegedly crushed the victim under its wheels. The impact was so severe that the man’s head was completely mangled, making immediate identification impossible.
Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control as traffic congestion and panic spread in the area. The body was recovered and sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for autopsy.
Police said efforts are underway to establish the identity of the deceased. “We are checking missing person reports from nearby areas and examining CCTV footage to identify the vehicle involved in the incident,” a senior police official said.
The death triggered outrage among local residents, who demanded immediate action against the driver responsible and called for stricter traffic monitoring near the ISBT area to prevent similar accidents.
A case has been registered and an investigation is in progress.
