Jorhat DC forms task force to ensure non-stop LPG supply
Dibrugarh: In a move to safeguard the uninterrupted supply of cooking gas to consumers, Jorhat district commissioner Jay Shivani has constituted a district task force to monitor the stock and distribution of LPG across Jorhat district.
The order, issued on Saturday, comes in direct response to the ongoing geopolitical tensions arising from the conflict in West Asia and its potential ripple effects on petroleum product availability in Assam.
The task force constituted to prevent market distortions, black marketing and artificial scarcity of LPG in the district covers four administrative areas — Jorhat, Titabar, Mariani, and Teok — with senior officers assigned to each.
For Jorhat district, ADC Dyotiva Bora and ADC Sajiib Das have been designated as nodal officers, supported by assisting officers from the food, public distribution and consumer affairs (FPD&CA) department. Similar multi-officer teams have been constituted for the Titabar, Mariani and Teok co-districts to ensure ground-level monitoring.
The task force has been entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities. These include conducting regular inspections of LPG agencies and commercial establishments, closely monitoring stock positions and distribution of both domestic and commercial LPG cylinders, and preventing hoarding, black marketing and artificial shortages. Officers have also been directed to ensure that domestic LPG cylinders are not diverted for commercial use in hotels, restaurants or other establishments.
Additionally, the task force is mandated to conduct surprise inspections of LPG godowns and transport vehicles, verify records maintained by distributors, maintain coordination with oil marketing companies and transporters, and submit daily status reports to the district office. Raising public awareness to prevent panic buying and unnecessary stockpiling of LPG cylinders have also been identified as a key responsibility.
“All assisting officers concerned are directed to remain alert and perform their duties diligently to ensure uninterrupted supply of petroleum products in the district,” the order stated.
