Headmistress, warden of KGBV suspended after students protest

Following a student protest highlighting teacher shortages, the education department in Joken EteItanagar has suspended the headmistress and hostel warden of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Nangnyo. Around 90 students marched 65km to district headquarters Lemmi to voice their concerns. The education commissioner cited grave mismanagement and indiscipline as the reason for the suspensions.

Itanagar: The state education department has placed the headmistress and hostel warden of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Nangnyo, under suspension with immediate effect till further orders after students protest highlighting shortage of teachers in the school.Education commissioner Amjad Tak, in an order of suspension issued on Wednesday, placed headmistress Nyayir Riba and warden Tummi Chisi under suspension.On Sept 14, around 90 girl students from the school, without obtaining prior consent from the competent authority, marched towards Pakke Kessang district headquarters Lemmi, covering 65km, to highlight acute shortage of teachers in the school. The students reached Lemmi on Monday morning.In the order, the commissioner said, “It is the responsibility of the KGBV head to bring such grievances of students to the notice of the higher authorities through appropriate channels. Failure to do so has resulted in grave mismanagement and indiscipline.”
