GUWAHATI: Nagaon Police on Thursday arrested two persons who had been involved in a daylight shooting and robbery at Hatimuria on Monday.
After arresting the prime accused, Taizul Islam, on Wednesday night, police proceeded to nab his partner
Saiful Islam at Moirabari on Thursday.
Two pistols and 21 live cartridges were seized from Saiful. The duo had arrived on a motorbike, shot at a bank staff (identified as Kuldeep Borah), and fled with his bag containing cash worth Rs 1 lakh.
The cash belonged to the bank.
Police said, "The incident took place on November 21 at noon, during the demonetization crisis. Borah was on his way to the Moirabari branch of his bank after collecting Rs 1 lakh from a different branch of the bank when the miscreants stopped him at gunpoint."
The two had fired a few rounds and Borah was hit by a bullet in his abdomen, police added.
"There were a few others in the group and police are in search of them. So far, only Rs 3,000 has been recovered," a source said.
Borah is reportedly stable now and is undergoing treatment.
