Garo Hills ADC polls on October 12

SHILLONG: The last date for filing nominations for election to Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) is September 21, said an official Election Commission notification.
“The last date for withdrawal of nomination is September 24. The election will be held from 7am to 4pm on October 12 and the votes will be counted on October 15,” the notification read.
The Congress has announced candidates for all constituencies except 14-Betasing. Of the 28 candidates announced, three are women — Christilla M Marak from 7-Babelapara, Sadhiarani M Sangma from 10-Dengnakpara and Jinggie D Shira from 25-Damas. The party has fielded two non-tribal candidates — Monirul Islam from 17-Balachanda and Sader Hossian from 19-Shyamnagar.
Some other political parties have also announced their list of candidates with Garo National Council (GNC) releasing three names, United Democratic Party (UDP) naming nine candidates and National People’s Party (NPP) announcing 19 names. The BJP, which had earlier announced it would contest the polls, is yet to name any candidate.
