AIZAWL: Representatives of the erstwhile underground
Mizo National Front cadres met the additional secretary in the ministry of home affairs (MHA)-northeast, Piyush Goyal, in New Delhi on Wednesday. They were accompanied by C Lalrosanga, the lone Lok Sabha member from Mizoram.
These cadres had laid down their arms following the signing of the historic Mizo Accord between the Centre and the erstwhile underground MNF on June 30, 1986.
Lalrosanga told Goyal that though the Mizo Accord was the most successful agreement ever signed between the Centre and the militant groups, some of the conditions were yet to be fulfilled. The Centre was yet to provide housing assistance for the former militants, he added.
The representatives also apprised Goyal of the problems that they have been facing, including incomplete payment of the rehabilitation package as was included in the accord.
Lalrosanga raised the issue of welcoming asylum seekers from Bangladesh and appealed to Goyal to provide them humanitarian assistance. The MHA official informed the MP that the matter of refugee influx from Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts has already been taken up with the Bangladesh government.
