Ex-MP Kabindra Purkayastha laid to rest with state honours

Silchar: Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Kabindra Purkayastha was cremated with full state honours at the Silchar cremation ground on Thursday. Assam Police accorded a three-gun salute during the last rites.

The funeral rituals were performed by his son, MP Kanad Purkayastha. Earlier in the day, BJP Assam president Dilip Saikia paid floral tributes at the District Sports Association ground. A wreath was also laid on behalf of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma at the cremation site. The remains were taken to his house, then the BJP office, before a large procession accompanied the journey to the crematorium.
