Itanagar: A 45-year-old woman, identified as Sarana Yoya, has been arrested on Thursday for narcotics trafficking by police in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai, an official said.
Acting on a tip-off about trafficking of narcotics on Wednesday, a police team led by Namsai sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Kengo Dirchi launched a targeted operation in the Trolley Line area in Namsai following due legal procedures on Thursday.
Based on her disclosure, the team conducted a search and recovered 133 grams (approximately) of heroin worth around Rs 7 lakh from them. The contraband was sealed in 11 plastic soap cases and were hidden in nearby bushes.
The accused was arrested and the contraband was weighed, marked, sealed and seized in presence of independent witnesses, police said.
A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Namsai Police Station and further investigation is underway, the SDPO said.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, police have appealed to the general public to share information to help curb narcotics-related activities.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with
