Dhubri plans urban forest, sewage treatment plant

Dhubri: An urban forest is coming up on an abundant railway land in Dhubri, while a sewage treatment plant is also being constructed to clean dirty drain water before it is released into the Brahmaputra.

The present Dhubri Municipal Board came to power on April 7, 2022. Since then, it has received funds under the 15th and 16th finance commissions.


Four years of development by the Dhubri civic body have given a facelift to the town, with parks including Srimanta Sankardev Sishu Udyan, Netaji Park and Queen Victoria Park renovated and a Clock Tower has also been constructed.

The board is also laying drinking water supply pipelines in nine of the town’s 16 wards. A wall magazine was also unveiled at Swahid Bedi Park recently, claimed to be the first such initiative by a municipal body in Assam.

Talking to TOI, board chairman Debamoy Sanyal said several development works have been completed, with others nearing completion, and that he plans to add more beautification measures in the coming years. “Canvas-Dhubri, a wall magazine dedicated to budding poets, artists and authors and all persons involved in literary works to showcase their talent in art, culture and heritage, was formally unveiled by Dhubri district guardian minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass recently,” he added.

After unveiling, Dass said this was the first wall magazine of its kind in Assam by any municipal board or town committee.
