Guwahati: Cotton University awarded an honorary D.Litt. to Zubeen Garg posthumously during the university’s fourth convocation in the city on Tuesday.Assam governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya presented the honour to Palmee Barthakur, who received it on behalf of Zubeen.“It is an academic honour and a big thing for us. For me, it is a very emotional moment to receive the honour in Dada’s absence,” Palmee said.As the “Justice for Zubeen” movement continues in Assam across various platforms, Palmee expressed hope that the chargesheet to be filed in the coming days will be comprehensive enough to ensure exemplary punishment for those responsible for Zubeen’s death.Palmee added that in the three months following his death, the family realised “how people took advantage of him.”At the event, Acharya awarded an honorary D.Litt. (Honoris Causa) degree to eminent Assamese writer and scholar Ranjit Kumar Dev Goswami for his invaluable contributions to literature and cultural studies.During the convocation Acharya awarded degrees to 2,804 graduates in the presence of CM Sarma.
