Silchar: A controversy erupted in Sribhumi district after BJP district vice-president Nanigopal Roy allegedly sang the national anthem (“Jana Gana Mana”) incorrectly during a school function.
The Congress has condemned the incident and warned of legal action against the BJP leader.
Youth Congress district spokesperson Subhajit Chakrabortee on Saturday accused the BJP of double standards and dared the party to take disciplinary action against Roy, a former headmaster of Ratabari Azad High School.
Chakrabortee said, “When senior Congress leader Bidhu Bhushan Das sang a line from a Tagore song at a party event, the CM ordered an FIR and even called it a case of treason. But now, when a BJP leader fails to sing the national anthem correctly, there is silence.”
He said his party was considering lodging an FIR against Roy for disrespecting the national anthem.
