Cocomi calls for continued dialogue among Manipur MLAs for peace
Imphal: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (Cocomi) has expressed approval of the recent meeting between Meitei and Kuki-Zo BJP MLAs in Delhi, describing it as a “positive and long-overdue step towards restoring peace in Manipur.”
COCOMI convener Khuraijam Athouba emphasized the importance of continued dialogue among legislators from all communities to achieve peace, normalcy, and coexistence in the state.
“Better late than never. Such initiatives must continue and translate into amicable solutions for lasting peace,” Athouba said.
In a related development, a Cocomi delegation met with security adviser Kuldiep Singh on Tuesday, presenting a detailed map highlighting strategic points for necessary security deployment. This measure aims to facilitate the safe resettlement and rebuilding of homes for internally displaced persons (IDPs). Singh said a follow-up meeting would be organized with the DGP, other police officials, Cocomi, and local IDP representatives to finalize new security arrangements.
On Monday, Cocomi representatives visited the Moirang College relief camp, spending the night with IDPs who have been residing there for over two and a half years. This visit is part of Cocomi's ongoing protest campaign, now in its 16th day, which seeks to draw attention to the prolonged displacement and hardships faced by IDPs.
During their stay, the delegation engaged with displaced families, who voiced concerns about daily challenges, uncertainty, and delays in returning to their homes. On Tuesday morning, after breakfast at the camp, the team conducted an on-site assessment in the Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung areas in Bishnupur, followed by a visit to the Ithai relief camp, where approximately 83 IDPs remain sheltered.
Khuraijam indicated that Cocomi plans to formally communicate with district administrations within the next two to three days to expedite resettlement where conditions allow. However, he acknowledged that security deployment and arrangements continue to pose significant challenges.
