Chief secy reviews Guwahati’s flood preparedness
Guwahati: Assam chief secretary Ravi Kota on Saturday chaired a meeting with officials to assess steps taken to cover open manholes and drains and install barricades at identified high-risk locations to prevent accidents.A govt release said departments were asked to secure all vulnerable points. The review examined preparedness across departments for flood management, drainage and public safety in Guwahati.“The meeting focused on the progress of desilting of major drains, deployment of pumping systems, and precautionary measures related to guard wall construction along the Bharalu River and other key drainage channels,” the statement read.Over 300 locations in city have been identified as landslide-prone and are under surveillance. Awareness efforts will be stepped up to alert locals.
