CBI seizes incriminating evidence from Silchar related to financial fraud
Guwahati: The CBI on Thursday stated that they had recovered incriminating documents related to massive financial fraud by ‘DB Stock Consultancy', in the name of online trading, at the residence of Tanay Deb in Silchar on Wednesday. The case involving the consultancy is one of the 41 cases related to deceiving investors in irregular deposit scheme.
"The firm, owned by accused Deepankar Barman, along with Monalisa Das and 7-8 other employees, is accused of defrauding numerous investors across the country," the agency said.
The case was initially registered at Paltanbazar police station. With 40 other cases of online stock trading fraud registered across Assam, the case was taken up by the CBI on October 8 after the state govt requested the Centre to transfer the investigation to the central agency to ensure "impartial inquiry."
In a press communiqué, the CBI said that a chargesheet has also been filed against Monalisa Das on Monday in connection with case.
Further, the CBI stated that the bail application of accused actor and dancer Sumi Bora had been rejected by the special judge for CBI cases on Tuesday.
The online trading fraud scheme emerged towards the end of August, when investors reported that one Deepankar Barman (29), who operated a company and promised substantial returns through stock investments, closed down his office on August 21, failing to pay the dues to the investors and had gone absconding.

Subsequently, the arrest of one Bishal Phukan in Dibrugarh and actor Sumi Borah revealed that they had allegedly defrauded about 1,500 investors, promising high returns.
Last week, the central agency apprehended a prime accused in the case, Gopal Paul, from a hideout in Siliguri, in connection with a case involving AJRS Marketing Pvt Ltd, one of the other cases being scrutinised by the agency. Paul had been evading authorities since the registration of the FIR.
Barman was apprehended by Assam Police on October 27 from Goa.
