GUWAHATI: Assam Engineering College (AEC) celebrated National Sports Day on Monday with a seminar and a football tourney.
The day was a bitter-sweet one as the AEC community remembered former student and captain of the college cricket team Bikash Dastidar who passed away a few days ago.
The seminar, on the topic 'The Indian Sports Sector, Engineering in Sports', was inaugurated by vice-president of AEC's students' union Aroop Bardalai, chief guest Sandeep Bhattacharya, an official of the college branch of SBI, and Utpal Nath, assistant professor of chemistry.
Students also took part in football matches throughout the day.
The programme was assisted by Events2Sportify Day, an all-India sports encouragement programme working to develop the sector in the country. Events2Sportify Day and the directorate of students' welfare, Gauhati University, also organized a seminar on 'The Indian Sports Sector, Importance & Opportunities' on the university campus here recently.
