Bomb threat mails sent to 2 schools turn out to be a hoax
Guwahati: On the occasion of Saraswati Puja, two private schools in the city received hoax bomb threat emails, causing panic among students, parents, and school authorities and leading to immediate action from the city police on Friday. The day began with prayers but soon took an unsettling turn after school authorities reported a bomb threat, claiming the presence of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on their premises. City police immediately took charge of the situation. Although the threat was later confirmed to be a hoax, it caused concern as it came just days ahead of Republic Day, a period marked by heightened security.

DCP (west district) Numal Mahatto, while addressing the media on Friday, said, “After receiving the news, our teams were stationed outside the institution and conducted an anti-sabotage (AS) check. Anti-bomb squads were deployed, and the entire vicinity was thoroughly searched, but no explosives or suspicious materials were found.”The DCP added that during the investigation, it was found that the entire incident was a hoax, carried out by a criminal circle with the malicious intent of dampening the festive spirit. Mahatto said the mail came from one Rupan Kumar Dhar, and the matter is under investigation.“We have begun coordinating with the school authorities and have personally visited the premises to assess and implement security arrangements. Inspections will continue at other educational institutions as well,” he added.
