SILCHAR: The bodies of a woman and her minor daughter were found in Bairagitila village of Cachar district on Sarurday morning, triggering panic in the area.

The duo has been identified as Mira Ree (40) and Sangita Ree (12), said a senior police officer. He added that it looks like to be a case of

SP (Cachar) Mugdha Jyoti Dev Mahanta said the accused, Akhil Das, a resident of Bairagitila village is absconding. According to the official, locals spotted the

lying near a waterbody in the village, about 18 km from here, around 8 am.

The bodies bore multiple marks of injuries. A towel and an iron rod, also stained with blood, were found.

police post about the incident. Police soon reached the spot and launched an investigation with the help of a sniffer dog. The dog, during the course of investigation, stopped at the house of Das. However, he was not in the house. Blood stains were also found in the house. It's suspected that both the mother and the daughter were murdered inside the house.

Villagers said both Mira and Sangita had been staying in the house of Akhil for the past six months. They, however, added that they were unaware of the duo's relationship with the accused.
