Aizawl: In a milestone for Mizoram’s tourism sector, the Bharat Gaurav train, currently touring the northeast under the ‘North East Discovery Tour’, arrived at Sairang railway station at 9am on Thursday for the first time
.
The visit is part of a follow-up initiative after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the tourism department and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation in Aug 2025.
Officials from the tourism department, led by deputy director Rachel Lalrinhlui along with department’s staff, received the train and its passengers at the station.
The special tourist train reached Mizoram from Agartala, carrying 81 tourists, including visitors from the US and Nepal.
During their stay, the visitors toured Aizawl and its surrounding areas, covering key attractions such as the Aizawl Zoological Park, Solomon’s Temple, the Mizoram State Museum and Aizawl Peak.
The tourists departed Aizawl at 7pm on Thursday, heading towards Dimapur in Nagaland, without an overnight halt. The journey began in Delhi on Feb 3 and the tour covers all the northeastern states except Manipur.
