Guwahati: An Assam Rifles soldier received minor injuries during an exchange of fire between the security forces and suspected National Socialist Council of Nagaland Khaplang Yung Aung (NSCN-K-YA) militants along the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred between Border Pillar numbers 172 and 173, where Assam Rifles personnel were supervising ongoing border fencing work.
Preliminary reports said troops came under fire from suspected insurgents, triggering a gunfight.
Sources said that the soldier suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and was evacuated for treatment and is reported to be out of danger.
There were no confirmed reports of militant casualties.
Sources indicated the presence of a newly active NSCN-K (YA) group in the area, raising concerns about insurgent activity along the sensitive border stretch above Nampong.
