GUWAHATI: The chief minister’s special vigilance cell arrested four village headmen on Monday in connection with a case over alleged irregularities in their appointment in South Salmara-Mankachar district in 2018.


The arrested accused were identified as Aminul Islam, Mufti Ullah Azad, Abdul Sahid and

. Police said the accused had confessed during interrogation that they had adopted “unfair means” to get their jobs. The irregularities in appointment came to light after the vigilance cell had arrested former additional deputy commissioner

last year based on a complaint lodged by one Ruhul Amin and 28 others.

, superintendent of police, CM’s special vigilance cell, said, “It was a case of illegal appointment of 70 village headmen in South Salmara-Mankachar district in 2018. Eleven village headmen were interrogated in connection with the case, of whom four were arrested today.”

Rahman was arrested in the appointments case while he was already in jail in a disproportionate assets case.
