Aizawl: With the death of four people in Lawngtlai district in three days, cholera has claimed a total 13 lives in south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai and Siaha districts since Nov, officials said
.
This prompted the district administrations of the two districts to seal the international border with Myanmar.
Officials of Lawngtlai district said cholera had claimed six lives in the district during Nov and another four persons have died recently at the Lairam Christian Medical Centre hospital in Lawngtlai town where seven people having the symptoms of cholera are being treated on Wednesday.
“Though there is no medical confirmation through laboratory tests, the symptoms were similar to those 6 people who died and taken sick in Kakichhuah village of the district in Nov last,” Donny Lalruatsanga, district magistrate of Lawngtlai, told
TOI.
Siaha district additional DC Abraham Beirazi Khithie also issued an order late Tuesday evening sealing the district’s international border with Myanmar after 4 persons, having cholera symptoms, were admitted to the Tipa community health centre.
