33,536 voters dropped from list after Special Revision in Cachar

Silchar: The final electoral roll for Cachar district has recorded a net drop of 33,536 voters following the Special Revision (SR), with the district’s electorate now standing at 13,81,903, officials said on Tuesday.

District commissioner Aayush Garg, who formally published the rolls, said the revised list comprises 6,91,607 men, 6,90,283 women and 13 third-gender voters spread across 1,732 polling stations — reflecting near-equal gender representation.


The draft electoral roll released on Dec 27, 2025, had pegged the electorate at 14,15,439. Election officials attributed the reduction to “rigorous verification” during the SR, including deletion of duplicate and ineligible entries, correction of records, rationalisation of data and intensive field-level scrutiny to ensure legal accuracy and credibility.




According to an official release, the final photo electoral rolls for the seven Assembly constituencies — Lakhipur, Udharbond, Katigorah, Borkhola, Silchar, Sonai and Dholai (SC) — were published with Jan 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, under Section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.

The rolls are available for public inspection at the office of the district election officer, Cachar, and with booth level officers (BLOs) of the respective constituencies.

Addressing the media, Garg termed the publication a “landmark step” in safeguarding democratic integrity and bolstering public trust. He said the SR was carried out with an emphasis on transparency, inclusion and accountability, backed by door-to-door verification by BLOs, digital and physical checks of records, and structured monitoring at every administrative level.
