26-yr-old man drowns in Larang river, body recovered
Silchar: A 26-year-old man drowned in the Larang river in Cachar district, and his body was recovered on Thursday morning, police said.The deceased has been identified as Kiran Goala, a resident of Charigram under the Katigorah block. According to locals, Kiran had gone to bathe in the river around 4 pm on Wednesday, but did not return home.Balaram Barua, VDP secretary of the area, said family members launched a search late into the night after he went missing. “His soap case, gamosa and slippers were found lying on the riverbank, raising suspicion,” he added.When his whereabouts could not be traced, the family lodged a missing persons report at Kalain police station.On Thursday morning, Kiran’s body was found floating in the river near his house. Family members claimed the water level at the spot was shallow.The body was later sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
