GURUGRAM: A 32-year-old Gurgaon cop was found dead inside her official quarters in

Palam Vihar

, hanging from a ceiling fan with a dupatta tied around her neck, on Friday.

Police believe Shakila committed

suicide

as a note was recovered from her diary. In the note, Shakila said she was upset as she had not met her son in the past two years. “My husband and parents-in-law took away my child and pushed me to taking this step. My

divorce

and dowry cases are in courts and all that I got was dates,” it read.

Her estranged husband and parents-in-law have been booked on charges of abetment, following a complaint by Shakila’s father Mahender Singh at Bajghera police station. However, no arrests have been made in the case so far.

Shakila, originally from Sanghi village in Rohtak district, joined Haryana Police in 2011. She was posted in Shivaji Nagar police station and lived alone in her Palam Vihar police quarters.

Cops said she did not report for duty on Friday and did not even respond to calls. Around 1 pm, one of her neighbours peeped through an open window to find Shakila hanging from the ceiling fan.

Shakila got married in 2002 with Sunil Kumar, a native of Charkhi Dadari. She had been living separately for the past four years. But what probably drove her to suicide was the fact that her 13-year-old son has been living with his father for the past two years, cops said. “The post-mortem will be conducted on Saturday. We are investigating the death,” said Deepak Kumar, SHO, Bajghera police station.
