Special team set up after schoolgirls accuse teacher of misconduct at govt school in Gurgaon

Gurgaon: A teacher at Govt Girls Senior Secondary School in Jacobpura has come under scrutiny after a group of Class 9 students accused him of making obscene remarks, using inappropriate gestures and threatening them with academic consequences for raising objections. The education department has initiated an inquiry and constituted a special team to investigate the allegations.

According to written complaints submitted by around 27 students, the teacher allegedly used double-meaning language in class and frequently discussed inappropriate topics instead of teaching. Students claimed he discouraged them from focusing on studies and alleged that those who objected were threatened with failure in examinations or other consequences.

The complaints also alleged repeated use of abusive language and vulgar remarks, which left students uncomfortable and distressed. Students said the remarks were directed at them, creating an atmosphere of fear in the classroom. Many were reluctant to speak out due to alleged threats.

The issue surfaced after students collectively submitted handwritten complaints to the school administration seeking action. However, they alleged that despite receiving multiple complaints, the matter was not addressed promptly.

The school principal denied receiving any formal complaint. In a brief response, the school management stated that the teacher was mentally unwell, though the education department has not directly accepted the explanation. The department officials said no conclusion has been reached yet, and the case is being examined from all angles.

A teacher, however, questioned the response of the school administration. “How can the principal deny forwarding such a case to the school’s POCSO committee? The allegations are extremely serious,” the teacher said.

Under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, schools are required to refer complaints of sexual harassment involving minors to the school’s POCSO committee. The committee, which includes the principal, teachers, counsellor and other representatives, is mandated to examine complaints confidentially and report cases to the police or relevant authorities. Officials said such cases must be acted upon promptly in accordance with legal provisions.

District education officer Captain Indu Boken Kasana confirmed that an inquiry is underway. Statements of students and staff will be recorded, and the teacher’s service record will be reviewed. Officials said a medical examination may also be conducted if required.

Parents and residents have demanded strict action if the allegations are substantiated. The education department has assured that the investigation will be conducted fairly and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
