GURGAON: A 23-year-old criminal carrying a reward of Rs 5,000 was arrested following an encounter with the Palam Vihar Crime Branch team of Gurgaon Police in Sector 93 on Wednesday.According to police, a total of seven rounds were fired during the exchange. The accused allegedly opened fire on the Crime Branch team, firing four rounds, one of which struck the bulletproof jacket of a police personnel.The police retaliated with three rounds, and one bullet hit the accused in the leg.The accused was identified as Nitin, a resident of Jhajjar. Police said he was wanted in connection with a kidnapping case registered in the Palam Vihar police station area and had been absconding for some time. A reward of Rs 5,000 had been announced for information leading to his arrest in the case.Police said Nitin was intercepted while passing through Sector 93 on a stolen motorcycle after the Crime Branch team received specific information from its informants about his movement in the area.Investigators said the accused has a long criminal history. More than 15 cases involving serious offences, including attempt to murder, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping and violations of the Arms Act, are registered against him.Following his arrest, police recovered a motorcycle and weapons from his possession.The injured accused was taken for medical treatment, and further investigation is underway. Police are also examining his possible involvement in other criminal cases in the region.
