Plan to kickstart Bandhwari plant gets govt nod
GURGAON: MCG commissioner Vikas Gupta announced on Wednesday that the government has approved its RFP (request for proposal) document for Gurgaon's solid waste management. Tenders will be invited in two months, which will include operation of the Bandhwari solid waste management treatment plant and door-to-door waste collection.
According to Gupta, apart from operating the Bandhwari plant, the company to win the work award will also be responsible for door-to-door garbage collection for the whole city.

"This is included in the RFP document. Once a company is awarded the work, intermediary waste collection and transfer points will also be designated after discussions with the operator. The RFP has been finalized and we'll call for tenders in two months," he said.
The company that wins the tender will be given 3-4 months time to get the Bandhwari plant operational and ready all other associated infrastructure for door-to-door garbage collection, Gupta said. He, however, did not confirm if another STP will be built in addition to the one at Bandhwari.
MCG is currently collecting garbage door-to-door in 122 colonies across zones 1 and 2.
This, according to Gupta, will be extended to zones 3 and 4 in the next six months, and will include areas under HUDA, colonizers, HSIIDC, Marketing Board and Housing Board.
"Everyone will have to pay a nominal charge for the service, once it starts. For residential areas, these charges would vary between Rs 5 and Rs 100 per month. For commercial entities, it would be between Rs 25 and Rs 5,000 per month. These rates have already been fixed by the urban local bodies department," he explained.
Gupta said, "Solid waste management in Gurgaon will improve considerably, once the Bandhwari plant is operational and door-to-door waste collection is successfully executed, all within six months."
The parameters for paying the plant operator have been modified even in the RFP, wherein, payment will be made not on quantity of waste collected but quantity of waste treated," he added.
