The decision to evacuate Green View, built by public sector developer NBCC, was taken by deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav after a meeting on Wednesday with officials of the town and country planning department, NBCC and around 50 residents of the condominium.

Like Paradiso, Green View is a relatively new project. The condominium in Sector 37D was launched in 2010 and started giving possession in 2017. It has 923 flats, of which 263 have been sold.

IIT-Delhi was asked to carry out a survey last year after residents noticed cracks and other construction faults. IIT pointed out several structural defects.

NBCC subsequently served notices on the flat owners, many of them senior citizens and retired government officials, to move out, but the process made no headway because residents were unhappy with the alternatives it was providing.

The residents who participated in Wednesday’s meeting sought strict action against NBCC for poor construction quality. They asked the Haryana government to do the same as they have done for Chintels Paradiso and get an FIR registered against NBCC and the contractor.

P K Gupta, managing director of NBCC, said the condition of flats had deteriorated within four to five years, which shouldn’t have happened. During the audit, “it was found that the water in the area has high quality of chloride, which is leading to corrosion”, he said.
