Gurgaon: The nursery admission season is about to begin in the city and parents are yet again caught in a web of conflicting cut-off ages and the lack of uniform admission criteria in schools.
With no state-prescribed rules for nursery admissions, the schools take the liberty of framing their own rules. The age bar is a major issue, with certain schools using September to calculate the minimum age, while others using March.
"I feel that all schools (affiliated to the same board) should have the same age eligibility.

Different schools here follow different age criteria that add to the confusion," said Namita Saxena Sharma, a parent. While some schools begin admissions in August, some begin in October, thus creating a tricky situation for the parents as they have to often make a rushed decision in order to secure a seat for their child.
"The biggest problem I am facing is to be aware of the admission dates of all the schools that I have shortlisted. I wish there would be a single platform that updates this information, so that we do not miss out on any important dates," said Sonica Khullar Gandhi.
The district education authorities, however, have no plans to rectify the situation yet. "We have not taken any decisions about nursery admissions. Discussions are on and we will act on the matter soon," said a senior education official.
