GURGAON: A 34-year-old woman from Uttarakhand, who met her husband on Instagram and married him in Dec last year, was allegedly murdered by him just eight months later.
The couple's relationship, police said, was marked by frequent arguments and discord over trivial matters. The husband, who worked with a private company in the city, was arrested on Saturday.
Police said he had admitted to have committed the murder. Originally from Almora district, Nisha connected with Rajendra (26), who was from the same district, on Instagram sometime in the middle of last year. Their online courtship blossomed into marriage a few months later in Dec.
On Friday morning, the couple's landlord dialled the Manesar police station and informed cops about the murder at his house in Naharpur village.
A team led by inspector Satendra reached the spot, and found Nisha dead in her room, with a scarf tied around her neck and a deep wound on the head. Rajendra was arrested after their landlord told police his tenant had confessed to him that he had killed Nisha in a fit of rage.
During questioning, Rajendra - who studied till Class 12 in his village in Almora's Kapli Khet - told police he had met Nisha on Instagram and married her in Dec after she claimed to have no family.
But ties between them became testy soon. The couple's relationship was fraught with frequent arguments over trivial matters, with Nisha often threatening to leave or divorce Rajendra. On Thursday, a heated argument escalated when Nisha brandished tongs. Rajendra struck her with a rolling pin, causing her to bleed.
In a futile attempt to stop the bleeding, Rajendra tied a scarf around her head, inadvertently strangling her in anger and causing her death. After the incident, Rajendra visited his brother's room and even went to work - as if nothing had happened. The following day, he informed his landlord about the murder. "Based on a complaint filed by Nisha's uncle Dhirendra, a case was registered for murder and other relevant charges. Rajendra was taken into custody and is being questioned as part of investigation," said a police spokesperson.
