No occupation papers & fire nod for Unitech project, families seek action
GURUGRAM: More than 500 families of The Residences, a Unitech project in Sector 33, alleged the apartments had not been provided the occupation certificates though the flats were handed over to them in 2014. Owing to this, they said, the entire apartment is running on diesel gensets as electricity supply hasn’t been provided yet.
Residents also claimed that the builder hadn’t made efforts to renew the no-objection certificate (NOC) issued by the fire department after its expiry almost a year ago. “We moved in to the flats four years ago. Till now, the society hasn’t been issued an occupation certificate. Without this, staying in the society is illegal, and the authorities can ask us to vacate the premises anytime. In case of an accident in the building, we may not be entitled to get compensation,” said Naveen Kumar, a resident.
TOI tried to contact the developer’s office several times but phone calls went unanswered. Despite directions issued by the authorities in meetings attended by Unitech representatives, buyers and the town and country planning department (DTCP) in the last three years, the developer has not resolved these concerns, alleged residents.
RWA president Vikram Bishnoi said no electricity connection was provided to the flats despite directions by the chief minister in 2016. “The CM had directed the administration and the developer to arrange power connection in June 2016 while attending a grievance committee meeting,” he said.
“The fire NOC of these 11 towers has expired and Unitech has not renewed it till date. No reason has been cited for not securing the NOC despite several reminders by residents,” Bishnoi said, adding that the developer had not even made efforts to get sewage connection too. The developer is dumping sewage in open basement, which is not allowed.
On Wednesday, when a few residents protested, raising their demands, bouncers deployed by the developer allegedly misbehaved with them. The residents are planning to lodge a police complaint against the developer. On Thursday, residents met district town planner RS Batth, demanding swift action.
Batth told TOI that he had asked the developer to reply on the status of grievances by Monday. He also said he would visit the project to access the ground situation and issue directions to solve residents’ concerns.
