MLA reviews Manesar works, pushes for monsoon readiness and infra expansion
Gurgaon: Pataudi MLA Bimla Chaudhary on Monday directed officials of Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) to ensure there is no waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon, while also calling for expansion of civic infrastructure, including community centres in every ward.
Chairing a review meeting of development works across 11 wards in Pataudi, Chaudhary asked officials to coordinate with GMDA to facilitate canal-based water supply to Kasan and nearby villages.
She noted that a significant portion of land in the municipal area is classified as “gair mumkin pahad” (uncultivable hill land), along with village common land.
“This classification has significantly restricted the scope of development activities in these villages, despite their larger actual populations. Efforts will be made to reclassify such land in affected villages to enable expansion of development works,” the MLA said.
MCM commissioner Pradeep Singh said the city’s 55-km drain network has been cleaned once and will be desilted again ahead of the monsoon. He added that permanent solutions to waterlogging have been implemented at IMT Chowk and Rampura Chowk along the national highway, with work at other vulnerable points expected to be completed soon.
The corporation is also preparing around 75 rainwater harvesting pits, of which 47 have been completed and 20 are under construction. Budget approval has been secured for the remaining pits.
Officials said a request has been sent to GMDA for 15 MLD of canal water supply to villages, including Kasan, Khoh, Bans Kusla, Hariya and Dhana, with approval awaited.
Joint commissioner Puneet Kumar said a tender has been floated for mechanised road sweeping, while an agency has been engaged to manage stray animals.
The civic body has also initiated action against illegal dumping of waste, seizing three vehicles and issuing notices to owners of vacant plots being used as garbage dumps or scrap yards, officials said.
According to officials, around 30 civil works are underway across the 11 wards, along with seven projects related to parks, ponds and stadiums. Sewage treatment plants are planned in Kasan, Nainwal and Naurangpur villages. In the power infrastructure segment, electrical XEN Vasu Baggan said 5,000 streetlights will be installed in the first phase, with additional installations planned based on ward-level requirements.
