Miss India United Continents 2018 Gayatri Bhardwaj marks her birthday by distributing food, masks in Gurgaon

After months of staying indoors, Gayatri Bhardwaj, fbb Colors Femina Miss India United Continents 2018, finally stepped out of her home in Gurgaon on June 17, her birthday. The beauty queen says she wanted to do something special for her ‘lockdown birthday’ and decided to distribute food to those who do not have a source of income right now.

“I got in touch with one of my mom’s friends who has been visiting slum areas in Gurgaon to distribute food. She suggested that I go to Sector 52, the area near the Sai Baba Temple. I distributed some home-cooked food to some kids and families there,” says Gayatri, adding that while it was great to be able to help, it was also sad to know how the families have been living without any sources of income.

“They told me that they depend on food that is distributed. Some of them requested for some extra food so that they could eat in the evening, too. It was so sad to see that some of those kids did not even have footwear to wear in this heat. Some had covered their faces with their saris, a piece of cloth, and some did not have masks. After distributing food, I bought some masks for them. I also bought some extra masks and some beverages and drove around the city distributing them to some Traffic Police officials and a few other people,” says Gayatri, who now plans to distribute food and other essentials regularly. “This is the least I could do and I realised that the smile that those kids had when I gave them food was the best birthday gift,” says Gayatri.
