Minimum temperature remains below 20°C, expect rain, thunderstorm
Gurgaon: After a marginal dip in night temperatures, weather conditions in the city and across Haryana are set to turn unstable this week. On Sunday, India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued yellow and orange alerts for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over the next three days.
Gurgaon on Sunday recorded a minimum temperature of 18.2 degrees Celsius, about 1.5 degrees Celsius lower than the previous day, while the maximum settled at 30.9 degrees Celsius, indicating relatively mild conditions for early April. On Saturday, the maximum temperature was 30.7 degrees Celsius in the city and the minimum was 19.7 degrees Celsius. Across the state, minimum temperatures remained close to normal, even as parts of Haryana saw light rainfall.
IMD on Sunday issued a yellow alert for April 6, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places. Weather activity is expected to intensify thereafter, with an orange alert in place for April 7 and April 8. During this period, thunderstorms are likely to be more widespread, with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph and chances of hailstorm in isolated areas.
Forecast data indicates that rainfall activity will expand across Haryana from April 7, including Gurgaon. While April 6 is expected to see only isolated rainfall, April 7 could witness showers at many places, followed by scattered rainfall and hailstorm on April 8. Conditions are likely to turn dry again by April 9.
The current pattern signals a shift from relatively stable weather to a more active phase driven by a western disturbance. For Gurgaon, this means cloudy skies, brief spells of rain and strong winds through midweek, with the most intense conditions likely on April 7 and 8. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms, especially due to the risk of strong winds and lightning.
