MCM set to hire agency for fresh waste processing
Gurgaon: The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) on Tuesday initiated the process to hire a private agency for fresh waste processing. The project is estimated to cost Rs 85 lakh, and the agency will be hired for three months.
The civic body currently has two agencies processing the legacy waste. One agency was given the contract to process 90,000 MT of legacy waste in Manesar, which it could not complete. The agency was then issued a termination notice, following which the agency gave a representation to complete the work in 20 days, said officials. Another agency was given the contract to process at least 38,500 MT of waste, and the officials said that it has so far processed 50% of the assigned quantity.
“We have now floated a tender to hire an agency for fresh waste processing. It is a stop-gap arrangement to ensure that waste does not pile up. The two agencies currently engaged in waste processing are working at Sectors 6 and 8 of IMT Manesar,” said an MCG official privy to the matter.
He added, “We sent a proposal to hire an agency for waste processing for 10 years. However, we got the approval for five years, three years initially extending up to two more years in case the performance of the contractor is found satisfactory. So, we had to plan a stop-gap arrangement to ensure waste does not accumulate.”
The estimated waste generation in Manesar is 230 to 250 tonnes, said officials, adding that a new weigh bridge has been installed and will be operational from May 1 to ascertain the actual quantity of waste generated daily in Manesar.
