GURGAON: The rift between councillors and executives has delayed the annual MCG budget by over a month and if things continue the same way, it may soon hamper development work.
The latest blow came when the MCG commissioner called off the budget meet slated for Thursday at the last hour. In a press release issued on Wednesday evening, the MCG said the meeting has been postponed due to "unspecified reasons".
No fresh date for the budget meet was given. Though Gupta could not be reached for his comments, sources in the civic body said the meet was called off because of sustained pressure from councillors, including the mayor.
The elected representatives have been demanding a bigger say in the budget drafting process.
Calling it the first major victory, councillor
Nisha Singh told TOI, "Elected councilors, including the mayor, were not consulted in the budget making process. Every year, MCG budget has inflated revenue and expenditure figures, painting a misleading picture about the financial health and capabilities of MCG, thus deceiving not only the councillors but also the residents of Gurgaon."
"We hope the changes that we have demanded are included in the draft budget, else we will write to the chief minister and also demand a CAG probe," she added.
