ROHTAK: Haryana deputy CM Dushyant Chautala asserted Saturday that the state government would take strict action against those accountable for the communal clashes in Nuh and also criticised cow vigilantes, pointing out that numerous individuals falsely claim to be cattle protectors without actually owning or genuinely safeguarding cows.

He said Mewat had remained free of communal violence for 600 years, and those responsible for instigating the first riot in the region would not be spared.

Addressing the media after a meeting of the district grievance committee, Chautala said no one involved in the Nuh violence of July 31, whether it be a prominent politician, social organisation, or any MLA, would be exempt from punishment. He mentioned that the investigation was on and police had already made several arrests.

Regarding Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot's accusation that Haryana did not cooperate in arresting Monu Manesar, the alleged murderer of two cattle traders, Chautala clarified that Haryana police had collaborated with authorities in the neighbouring state in four raids to capture the suspect and would continue to support them in future manhunts. The Nuh violence was allegedly an outcome of festering anger against the failure to arrest cow vigilante leader Monu Manesar, who was named in FIRs following the killing of two men. Chautala said many individuals claimed to be cow protectors without owning or safeguarding cows.

He emphasised the need to verify the backgrounds of such individuals.
