GURUGRAM: The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has fielded businessman Virender Rana as its candidate in Gurgaon Lok Sabha constituency. Nuh MLA Zakir Hussain had contested the 2014 parliamentary elections from Gurgaon for the party.
INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala said a businessman could only better understand the problems of entrepreneurs and help the region regain its old glory.
Rana, a B.Tech, had worked in an IT company in the US for a few years before setting up his own business. The 42-year-old runs an IT firm in Gurgaon with its branches across India and in the US.
INLD spokesperson Praveen Atri said his party had defied the trend to field candidates keeping in view the caste combinations and had chosen a businessman to give representation to the city’s urban voters. “Most parties name candidates keeping in mind the caste equations. But we chose to give an opportunity to someone with whom the urban voters can relate themselves to,” said Atri.
He said INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala was credited with the growth of Gurgaon, and the party’s candidate would help the city revive its old glory.
