HISAR: To promote Haryana's folk culture and art in Australia, a
Haryana culture centre will be set up in Sydney, for which government will also provide financial support.
The announcement was made by Sewa Singh, president of Association of Haryana in Australia (AHA), in a cultural gathering held to celebrate AHA's first anniversary in Sydney on Sunday.
Sewa said the organization had applied for the grant after receiving government's assurance. "The number of lifelong members in the organization has gone up to 150 and by the end of this year it will reach 1,000. A unit of the organization has been established in
Melbourne
and the process to spread its wings into other big cities has been started," Sewa said.
During the function, a dance show by Benu Singh of
Rohtak was highly appreciated. Australia's ministers and high commissioners also took part in the installation ceremony. Haryanvi women, youths and men presented songs, dance and drama showcasing Haryanavi culture.
Besides president Sewa, who belongs to
Jind
, executive member Kuldeep Antil of
Sonipat
and Sushil Goyat of Hisar are of the opinion that Haryana's culture, language and art will remain safe in Australia's multi-cultural society. AHA also aims to help Indian students and sportspersons and the organisation is ready to help all migrant Indians.
