In a mahapanchayat in Manesar on Friday, sole eyewitness Nikku and Bhanwar’s cousin Monu claimed that anyone could verify that the encounter was fake from footage in CCTV cameras installed in front of the Kalkaji temple and metro station. Villagers also said that they would block roads if proper action was not taken. On September 23, Nikku had filed a complaint to the court of the first-class duty magistrate, claiming that inspector Manoj Verma had threatened to kill him over a Whatsapp video call.
In his complaint (a copy of which is with TOI), Nikku said that he was working as Bhanwar’s servant. He was allegedly picked up by police on September 18 and asked to make Bhanwar come opposite Bhairav temple in Kalkaji. Inspector Manoj Verma, along with 10 cops, allegedly arrested Bhanwar from the spot. The complaint added that from before Ambience Mall, Verma called the Gurgaon police commissioner and told him that Bhanwar would be apprehended in two-three days while Bhanwar was sitting with him. He was then taken to a room near Kamal farmhouse near Sehrawan village where cops allegedly killed him. Nikku said that he was allowed to go after promising to bury the events.
When contacted, inspector Manoj Verma, the head of crime unit, Palam Vihar, and ACP (crime) Shamsher Dahiya refused to comment. Police chief K K Rao said the matter was subjudice and all allegations would come up during the trial.
