YAMUNANAGAR: Facing a tough contest from Congress, INLD and BSP in all four assembly segments of
Yamunanagar
district, BJP has lost two seats and managed to retain Yamunanagar and Jagadhri only.
BJP’s Ghanshyam Dass Arora won from Yamunanagar seat, where INLD’s Dilbagh Singh was a favourite candidate, by a margin of 3,548 votes. Ghanshyam polled 60,833 votes (44.29%), while Dilbagh got 57,285 votes only. Congress’s Nirmal Chauhan polled 8,182 votes (5.96%) in this seat.
In another three-cornered contest at Jagadhri, speaker of the outgoing assembly and BJP candidate Kanwar Pal Gujjar romped home with 66,376 votes. Congress candidate Akram Khan was second with 50,003 votes and BSP’s Adarsh Pal Singh finished third with 47,988 votes.
In Sadhaura (reserved) constituency, BJP turncoat Renu Bala won with a margin of 17,020 votes. Bala, who was Yamunanagar zila parishad chairperson and contested the election as Congress candidate got 65,806 votes. She defeated BJP’s Balwant Singh (48,786) and BSP’s Sahi Ram (25,874).
In a close contest at Radaur segment, BJP’s Karan Dev Kamboj, was also a state minister in the
Haryana government, lost to Congress nominee Bishan Lal Saini by 2,541 votes. Bishan garnered 54,087 votes while Kamboj trailed him with 51,546 votes. BSP’s Mahipal Singh was third with 18,567 votes.
