GURUGRAM: Strict checking by Delhi Police at Delhi-Gurugram border on Monday morning in view of proposed protest at Jantar Mantar against Agnipath Scheme led to massive traffic jam in Gurugram at Sarhaul border. The tail back of traffic is increasing with every passing hour.
Delhi Police have barricaded the road heading from Gurugram to Delhi at Rajokari and checking almost every vehicle and people are allowed to cross the barricades only after satisfying the cops that they are not going for protest. Political workers and leaders heading towards Delhi to participate in the protest were detained.
Pradeep Kumar, a resident of DLF Phase-2, said Delhi-Gurugram border is choked and vehicles are moving at very slow pace due to checking by Delhi Police. "Many people have been stuck in the jam, and it is not clear for how long it will take to clear the jam," said Kumar.
Congress leader Sudhir Chaudhary said they, along with a few party workers, were heading to Delhi from Gurugram to participate in a protest organised at Jantar Mantar, but they were stopped by Delhi Police and taken to Vasant Kunj police station. Chaudhary, who is still at the police station, said they had permission for the protest despite that police denied them entry in Delhi. "They were checking every vehicle, my car had a Congress flag, so it was easy to identify. When inquired about my purpose of visit I told them we are going to participate in a protest. They took us to the police station,” said Chaudhary, adding that Delhi Police have given permission for the protest and now only they were not allowing them to participate in the protest.
DCP (traffic) of Gurugram Police, RS Tomar said there was traffic congestion on NH-48 at Sirhaul towards Delhi due to barricaded check points at Delhi border. “In case non-avoidable travel, commuters are requested to use alternate routes via Mehrauli Gurugram road, Faridabad Road and KMP,” said DCP. Traffic coming from Jaipur side has been diverted from KMP and Panchgaon.
