3,500 cops on roads for New Year
GURUGRAM : Police have decided to deploy around 3,500 personnel, including 900 trainee
Officers said the arrangements, starting Friday evening, had been made with focus on six points — maintaining law and order, smooth flow of traffic, avoiding brawls in restaurants and pubs,
In addition to the personnel on duty, 96 police outposts will be put up across Gurgaon district. These include 37 check-posts in east zone, 48 in the west and 11 in the southern part of the district.
The police said the maximum deployment of cops would be in and around Cyber Hub, MG Road, Golf Course Road, Sector 29 and Sohna Road.Around 25 check-posts have been set up around pubs and malls in the city. These include outposts near Sahara Mall, Vipul Agora Mall, DT City Centre Mall, MGF Metropolitan mall, Kingdom of Dreams, Huda Ground and so on.
The police team overseeing law and order will have 14 assistant commissioners, 60 inspectors, 450 traffic personnel and 900 outstation trainee cops, officers said. These would be in addition to cops from the local police stations.
Besides the police cover, there will be five fire tenders, two cranes and two ambulances at Iffco Chowk, Bristol Chowk, Sector 29 Market and South City. Counter-assault teams, including bomb disposal squads, anti-sabotage check teams, rider duty and PCR vans, too, will be patrolling the district trough the days.
The police have declared MG Road a no-driving zone from 6pm on Sunday (December 31) till Monday morning. “There will be no entry of vehicles on the road from Iffco Chowk, Hotel Westin, Bristol Chowk and the Sikanderpur side. Only residents who have valid car stickers will be allowed to move,” said DCP (traffic) Deepak Gahlawat.
In a bid to curb incidents of drink driving, Gurgaon police have partnered with a taxi aggregator. Ola cabs will be available from dedicated parking lots in Cyber Hub, Sector 29 Market and MG Road.
The police said they would ensure that none of the drivers of these cabs are drunk. The cops would carry alco sensors and check those exiting the party hubs for alcohol levels. If found drunk, people would be advised to arrange for a driver or hire a cab, the police said.
“We have partnered with Gurgaon Traffic Police and the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) to promote awareness and help curb the menace of drink driving on New Year’s-eve, as part of its national campaign ‘#PeeKeMatChala’ (don’t drink and drive). We will have dedicated parking lots and manned kiosks in popular places like Cyber Hub, Sector 29 Market and MG Road to assist partygoers opting for safe travel,” said Pranav Mehta, city head, Delhi NCR, of Ola.
